Estimate your Walmart Marketplace referral fee and net profit per item. Rates are based on Walmart’s official fee schedule, updated March 2026.
Rates last verified: September 2026. All referral fee percentages in this calculator are taken from Walmart’s official Referral Fee Schedule for Contract Categories, last updated by Walmart on March 9, 2026. Fees are calculated on the total sales price — item price plus shipping and handling — exactly as Walmart applies them.
Walmart Marketplace has no monthly subscription and no setup fee. Sellers pay a referral fee only when an item sells, plus optional costs if they use Walmart’s fulfillment or advertising services.
Referral fee. A percentage of the total sales price, charged on every order. Most categories pay 15%; electronics, cameras and appliances pay 8%; personal computers pay 6%; jewelry pays 20% on the first $250. The total sales price includes the item price plus any shipping and handling you charge the buyer.
Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS). If Walmart stores and ships your inventory, you pay a per-unit fulfillment fee based on weight and dimensions, plus monthly storage fees. WFS is optional — sellers who ship orders themselves pay only the referral fee.
Walmart Connect advertising. Sponsored Products and Sponsored Brands run on a cost-per-click basis. There is no minimum spend, and ads are entirely optional.
Returns. When you refund an order, Walmart credits the referral fee back to you. Return shipping costs depend on your returns policy and whether you use WFS.
Sales tax. Walmart is a marketplace facilitator in every US state, so it collects and remits sales tax on your behalf. Sales tax is paid by the buyer and is not a seller cost.
| Fee type | When it applies | Typical range |

The formula is the same for every category: referral fee = (item price + shipping charged to buyer) × category rate. Tiered categories apply different rates to different portions of the price. Here is how it works in practice.
You sell a board game for $40.00 and charge $6.00 shipping. Total sales price is $46.00. Toys & Games is a flat 15%, so the referral fee is $6.90. If the game cost you $18.00 and shipping cost you $5.50, your net profit is $46.00 − $6.90 − $18.00 − $5.50 = $15.60 (33.9% margin).
You sell a t-shirt for $12.00 with free shipping. The total sales price is under $15, so the rate is 5% and the fee is $0.60. Charge $4.00 shipping on the same shirt and the total becomes $16.00 — now in the $15–$20 tier at 10% — and the fee jumps to $1.60. In tiered categories, shipping charges can push you into a higher bracket.
You sell a USB-C docking station for $150.00 with free shipping. Electronics Accessories charges 15% on the first $100 and 8% on the remainder: ($100 × 15%) + ($50 × 8%) = $15.00 + $4.00 = $19.00. A flat 15% would have been $22.50, so the split rate saves $3.50 on this order.
The biggest difference is the subscription: Amazon charges Professional sellers $39.99 per month regardless of sales, while Walmart charges nothing until an item sells. Referral rates are broadly similar, so for low-volume sellers Walmart is usually the cheaper channel.
| Fee | Walmart Marketplace | Amazon (Professional plan) |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly subscription | $0 | $39.99 |
| Referral fee | 6% – 15% (20% jewelry) | 8% – 15% for most categories, up to 45% for some |
| Minimum referral fee | None | $0.30 per item in most categories |
| Fulfillment | WFS, optional | FBA, optional |
| Closing fee | None | $1.80 per media item |
| Payment processing | Included | Included |

No. Walmart is a marketplace facilitator in all US states and collects and remits sales tax on your behalf. The buyer pays the tax; it is not deducted from your payout.
The referral fee is Walmart’s commission on every sale and applies to all sellers. WFS fees apply only if you use Walmart Fulfillment Services to store and ship your products, and they cover picking, packing, shipping and storage. Use our WFS fee calculator to estimate those.
In Seller Center, open the Statements page. The contract category column shows the category Walmart assigned to each item, and the commission rate column shows the percentage applied. If you believe an item is miscategorized, you can file a referral fee dispute.
It uses Walmart’s published referral fee schedule, including price tiers, and is re-verified whenever Walmart updates the schedule. Your actual payout may differ if your item is assigned a different contract category than the one you selected, or if you use WFS or advertising.
